IN THE PERIOD OF 2024, FOOTWEAR EXPORTS DECREASE DEEPLY
Among Vietnam's main export product groups, footwear is the group with the hardest start.
In 2024, according to the latest preliminary statistics of te General Department of Customs, from January 1 to 15, footwear export turnover only reached 820 million USD, down nearly 20% over the same period last year 2023. Therefore, it has been noticed that recently this industry has faced many difficulties.

Regarding export markets in 2023, the United States leads with a turnover of 7.16 billion USD, other markets such as the EU also decrease, but there is a slight increase in the ASEAN market reaching 547 million USD, an increase of 26.1 % compared to 2022. This was chosen in the context of large, traditional markets facing difficulties; the footwear industry has had many solutions to expand the market, especially the Asian market.

LAO CAI: IMPORT AND EXPORT THROUGH KIM THANH BORDER GATE
SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE THROUGHOUT TET
At the international land border gate No. II Kim Thanh, Lao Cai, nearly 400 trucks of import and export goods are cleared by the Department every day. According to the Department's most current bulletin, from January 1 to 26, 2024, 253 enterprises were carrying out import and export procedures at the unit, up 51 over the same period in 2023 with a total turnover of 63.8 million USD.
Exports hit 28.74 million USD, up 25%, while imports exceeded 35 million USD, up 44%. Main export products such as peeled wood of all kinds, dragon fruit, durian, charcoal,...; Main imports: agricultural products, confectionery, fertilizer, machinery and equipment, chemicals, liquefied petroleum gas.

The Sub-Department develops a strict plan and organizes a full force from the head of the Department to working groups and civil servants on duty at border gates to focus on handling administrative procedures and controlling customs clearance of goods to create the most favourable conditions for import and export activities to run smoothly.
