According to a report by the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (VinaFruit),as of April 21,the export value of Vietnam's fruits and vegetables reached nearly 453 million USD, down 5.3% compared to the previous month and over 25% compared to the same period in 2024.It is estimated that in the first four months of the year, fruit and vegetable exports reached 1.6 billion USD,more than 14% higher than the same period last year.
Accordingly, by the end of Q1/2025, durian exports only brought in 98 million USD,ranking third among Vietnam’s major export items. Among these, dragon fruit exports retained the top position with nearly 155 million USD. Bananas came in second with 128 million USD.Regarding the market, as of the end of Q1/2025, fruit and vegetable exports to China reached only 521 million USD, down 238 million USD or 31% compared to the same period last year.
In mid-April 2025, Cambodia and China signed a protocol on phytosanitary requirements for the export of fresh durians from Cambodia to China.Thus,Cambodia became the fifth country to sign a protocol to export fresh durians to China, following Thailand, Vietnam,Malaysia and the Philippines.
This step shows that China is further tightening standards for inspecting the quality of imported agricultural and food products.To increase export value, Mr.Dang Phuc Nguyen – Chairman of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association – stated that businesses and producers must focus on improving quality and ensuring food safety, strictly avoiding pesticide and heavy metal residues as regulated by the importing country.
