At the end of the Southern semifinals, BUH LEGEND team from Banking University continues to develop the project of BUILDING THE SUPPLY CHAIN OF MANGO IN MEKONG DELTA EXPORTING TO KOREA MARKET to fight for the national final round of VIETNAM YOUNG LOGISTICS TALENTS 2019.
It can be said that planting is the most important activity in the whole supply chain. In order to improve and update knowledge about the supply chain of mango, 4 members of the team participated in a field trip to Hoa Loc Co-operative society in Cai Be District, Tien Giang Province on November 17th, 2019.
Tien Giang, one of the two most mango-growing provinces in the Mekong Delta, is well-known as the "king" of mangoes. In Hoa Loc Cooperative society, we were introduced by the Director- Mr. Bay Thuc about the Cooperative society organization and went to some gardens to visit the mango planting model according to VietGap standards. Through discussing, 4 members gained a better understanding of the production process, the requirements and standards of each specific import market, namely the United States, Korea, Japan, the stages of harvesting, sorting and handling and preserving mangoes. The team listened attentively, as well as asking questions. As a result, the group gained a better understanding of the meaning and role of cooperative society in the supply chain and had a realistic and concrete view of the stages from farming, harvesting to processing, packaging and preserving mangoes that are eligible for export to each market.
When being asked about the difficulties as well as the desire for the future, Mr. Bay said, “At present, Vietnamese mangoes have higher prices than some countries because cooperative societies do not have cold storage to preserve agricultural products. In the following stages such as handling or packaging, we must hire export companies, as well as we must truck to Cat Lai before exporting to other markets with high cost. If goods can be exported right here without trucking to the port in Ho Chi Minh City, the cost will be reduced, farmers will be more beneficial”. And those shares are also the wishes and suggestions of the group.
Thank for the support of director of Hoa Loc Cooperation Society and lecturers of International Economics Faculty. At the contest of Vietnam Logistics Young Talent 2019, the group hope to be able to convey practical knowledge about logistics and supply chain so that everyone can get an overview of the mango-specific agricultural chain in the Mekong Delta. BUH LEGEND team are pleased to receive your support in the final round taken place on the morning of December 1st, 2019 at Ton Duc Thang University.
